Painting Floors in Clean Rooms

July 12, 2010

We regularly get queries from Facilities managers and Maintenance Managers looking for advice on what coatings to use. A frequent query that we receive is with regard to floor coatings in clean rooms.

You have a number of floor coating options for  clean rooms. The most commonly used coatings are the following:

1. Pegakote – A two pack water based epoxy. Excellent resistance to abrasion and/or chemical attack. Suitable for daily washing and constant traffic. Fully certified and recommended for the health and food industry. For further information (including data sheets) please see:

http://www.paintshop.ie/Floor-Coatings/Water-based-industrial-floor-paint.aspx

2. Biosan – a high-tech two pack epoxy. Specifically designed for medical and surgical environments. Extremely high resistance to chemical attack and abrasion resistance. For further information (including data sheets) please see:

Paintshop Website Hygienic Coatings

Pegakote is used more in the food industry and Biosan is predominantly used in the medical/pharmaceutical industry. Biosan is the more high-tech of the two (it contains active ingredients that kill bacteria/moulds/growths etc.), which means it is more expensive than standard hygienic coatings. Biosan is top of the range in terms of hygienic coatings.

If you have any queries regarding either coating contact Kate at: kate@paintshop.ie

Also if you need any advice on preparing floor areas prior to painting, give me a shout I’d be glad to help.

Tips on how to prevent the aerosol nozzle from getting clogged up?

February 15, 2010

When you are finished using the aerosol hold the can upside down and spray it for a few seconds until the spray coming out of the nozzle is clear. This means that the line of the aerosol has been cleaned and is now free of solids that could have clogged up the line.

How this works: When you hold the can upside down all the solids/pigment goes to the top of the can, leaving only solvent and propellent at the end of the can. The solvent cleans out the line leaving it free of solids that could have dried in the line and clog it up.

Aesbestos

November 23, 2009

Asbestos Roof

Asbestos is deadly (not deadly as in great deadly, deadly as in fatal deadly…we have a way with words don’t we!). Despite the fatal health risks that asbestos carries, products containing asbestos are still widespread. Only last year (July 2008) the Olympic Delivery Authority announced that samples of asbestos-containing material had been discovered within the Olympic Stadium Site.

The best way to deal with asbestos is to remove it completely. This can be a lot of work and it can be extremely (extremely) expensive to pay someone to dispose of asbestos. A viable alternative to removing asbestos is to encapsulate it. This involves coating the asbestos with a seamless coating that will contain the asbestos.

Our coatings for asbestos are fully tested and certified. The Coatings Research Institute has certified our coatings as a recommended “procedure for the fixing and encapsulation of asbestos fibres on weathered asbestos cement”. They certified that this is a “sufficiently durable coating that can resist an aggressive environment”. They examined the effectiveness of our coatings (namely Dakfill) and found them to be hugely effective.

Here at Paintshop.ie we are well-trained in the area of asbestos encapsulation. Call us today for instructions on how to treat your asbestos roof (or other asbestos material).
