Aesbestos

Asbestos Roof

Asbestos is deadly (not deadly as in great deadly, deadly as in fatal deadly…we have a way with words don’t we!). Despite the fatal health risks that asbestos carries, products containing asbestos are still widespread. Only last year (July 2008) the Olympic Delivery Authority announced that samples of asbestos-containing material had been discovered within the Olympic Stadium Site.

The best way to deal with asbestos is to remove it completely. This can be a lot of work and it can be extremely (extremely) expensive to pay someone to dispose of asbestos. A viable alternative to removing asbestos is to encapsulate it. This involves coating the asbestos with a seamless coating that will contain the asbestos.

Our coatings for asbestos are fully tested and certified. The Coatings Research Institute has certified our coatings as a recommended “procedure for the fixing and encapsulation of asbestos fibres on weathered asbestos cement”. They certified that this is a “sufficiently durable coating that can resist an aggressive environment”. They examined the effectiveness of our coatings (namely Dakfill) and found them to be hugely effective.

Here at Paintshop.ie we are well-trained in the area of asbestos encapsulation. Call us today for instructions on how to treat your asbestos roof (or other asbestos material).

I enjoyed your humorous comment on a very serious area. You don’t mention a cleaner. I know that preparation is the key to painting anything, so can you reccomend a good cleaner, and how does one contain the contaminated cleaner and dispose of it safely.

    • We’re glad that you enjoyed our humor Shirley. The cleaner that you would require for an asbestos roof is AMW. This industrial strength cleaner is manufactured by Rust-Oleum, a high performance coatings company. AMW is a water-based, odourless, non-toxic cleaner, yet it is tough enough to clean even the oldest of asbestos roofs.

If you wish to do the cleaning yourself please enquire with your local county council or local landfill as to what your options are in terms of disposing of your waste water. Alternatively I can give you the contact details of contractors who would clean the asbestos roof and deal with the disposal of the contaminated water for you. If you have any other queries you can contact us at info@paintshop.ie we’d be happy to help!
